Alcon, Johnson & Johnson and Bausch + Lomb announced upcoming presentations at the 43rd Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) being held 12-15 September in Copenhagen, Denmark. From technologies in cataract, refractive and glaucoma, to new IOLs, the companies will be presenting new information on clinical data and innovations.
Alcon at ESCRS 2025
Alcon will present more than 40 studies alongside new technologies in cataract, refractive and glaucoma during the 2025 ESCRS meeting. Additionally, the company will host various symposia and activities.1
Alcon’s latest technologies available in Europe highlighted at ESCRS 2025
- Offering first-to-market innovations, the UNITY Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) and UNITY Cataract System (CS) are both designed to deliver efficiency, allowing for the transformation of vitreoretinal and cataract surgery.1
- The Clareon Vivity IOL is newly commercially available in Europe. Vivity, offering presbyopia correction with a consistent monofocal visual disturbance profile, is the most implanted extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL worldwide, completing the Clareon Collection.1
- The first and only Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT) device, Voyager DSLT simplifies selective laser trabeculoplasty by streamlining practice workflows. It is designed to deliver an “exceptional” experience for patients, helping to accelerate the adoption of laser as a first-line therapy.1
- Intelligent Service Solutions is launching globally, enabling remote diagnostics and software updates to allow for maximised customer productivity. Customers can find a comprehensive dashboard of Alcon devices and information, including warranty information, contract details, and device connectivity overview.1
“As ophthalmic practices face rising procedural volumes and increasing pressure to deliver both precision and efficiency, Alcon remains committed to providing integrated solutions that elevate every stage of the surgical journey,” Sunil Vasanth, Vice President Surgical, Alcon Europe, said in a press release.
“With the launch of UNITY VCS, the completion of our Clareon IOL portfolio, and a growing body of clinical evidence to support their use, we’re empowering surgeons with a comprehensive, connected platform designed to streamline workflows and deliver exceptional outcomes for patients across a broad range of needs," Vasanth said.

Johnson & Johnson presenting at ESCRS 2025
Johnson & Johnson announced the presentation of new data on the TECNIC IOL platform’s performance across diverse patient needs.3
“We’re proud to share new clinical data at ESCRS that reinforces the proven performance of our TECNIS platform – delivering reliable, high-quality visual outcomes tailored to cataract patients’ everyday needs, and enhancing lives through exceptional vision,” Jacqueline Henderson, President Vision EMEA, Johnson & Johnson, said in a press release.3 “At Johnson & Johnson, we’re constantly seeking to redefine what’s possible in cataract care and remain committed to empower surgeons with precision-driven solutions that support personalised care across a diverse range of refractive profiles and lifestyles.”
J&J presentations highlighting the TECNIS platform at ESCRS 2025
“Visual and Refractive Outcomes in Patients with a History of Previous Laser Vision Correction Undergoing Implantation of a Refractive Partial Range of Field Extended Intraocular Lens,” presented by Stephen Stewart, will highlight how a new, refractive partial range of field extended IOL offered good range of vision with minimal side effects. Additionally, further analysis on previous hyperopic or myopic surgery type results from an additional 30 bilateral LVC patients at 3 months will also be presented.3
Dr Helena Noguera will present, “Comparison of Visual Outcomes and Defocus Curves Between the Purely Refractive Partial Range of Field Extended IOL TECNIS PureSee IOL and the TECNIS 1-Pieces IOL.” This presentation will illustrate data found to support the TECNIS PureSee IOL offering positive intermediate and near vision without compromising distance vision and maintaining a more stable defocus curve when compared to the monofocal IOL. Additionally, no halos or glare were reported in either group, despite theoretical risks about photopic disturbances.3
Data on the TECNIC IOL portfolio will be presented by Karolinne Rocha, Md, PhD, in a presentation titled, “Tolerance to Induced Astigmatism Amongst Various Intraocular Lenses Categories.” According to highlights from this presentation, the TECNIC IOL was evaluated for tolerance with astigmatism across standard monofocal, enhanced monofocal, diffractive EDOF, and diffractive multifocal IOLs. Findings showed better tolerance to induced oblique and against-the-rule astigmatism in enhanced monofocal IOL group compared to the other types. Lastly, it is noted that overall, with-the-rule astigmatism was better tolerated than oblique and against-the-rule in all groups.
An e-poster presentation, “Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Enhanced versus Monofocal Intraocular Lenses in Cataract Surgery,” will be showcased by Dr Joaquin Fernandez. This e-poster will highlight the meta-analysis for TECNIS Eyhance IOL, which found high-certainty evidence that the IOL enhances intermediate and near visual acuity compared to standard monofocal IOLs. Additionally, evidence for contrast sensitivity and patient-reported outcomes was moderate to low, though further research is needed on other new enhanced monofocal IOLs to confirm outcomes in comparison to TECNIS Eyhance IOL.
