Revolving around the theme Future of Glaucoma Diagnosis and Management, the 2nd International Glaucoma Symposium will take place on 31 January 2026 at the University Eye Clinic in Mainz, Germany. The one-day meeting will run from 10:00 to 17:00 Central European Time and will bring together US and global ophthalmologists to focus on the diagnosis and management of optic neuropathies in daily clinical practice, developments in optic neuropathy diagnostics—including artificial intelligence and other emerging trends—and current and future perspectives in glaucoma surgery.

What is the focus of the session “Diagnosing and Managing Optic Neuropathies in Daily Practice”?

This session addresses the assessment and management of optic neuropathies in routine clinical settings. Participants will gain insight into the use of diagnostic tools such as retinal nerve fibre layer thickness measurements, optical coherence tomography, and artificial intelligence, as well as approaches to detecting early and pre-perimetric glaucoma. The session also covers differentiation of glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous optic neuropathies, identification of fast glaucoma progression, and current clinical perspectives on optic disc drusen.

What will participants learn in the session “Future of Diagnosing Optic Neuropathies—AI and Other New Trends”?

This session focuses on developments shaping the future of optic neuropathy diagnostics. Participants will better understand how artificial intelligence is currently applied in ophthalmology, how it is being integrated into diagnostic workflows, and how it compares with traditional statistical methods. Additional topics include AI-based normative database collection, change detection methods, and emerging trends such as fluid biomarkers.

What is covered in the session “Future in Glaucoma Surgery”?

This session reviews established and evolving surgical approaches in glaucoma care. Participants will gain an overview of the glaucoma surgical toolbox, including the advantages and limitations of different techniques. The programme includes discussions on trabeculectomy, revision glaucoma surgery, microinvasive glaucoma surgery, and other modern glaucoma procedures within current clinical practice.
