Geuder has announced its support for ophthalmic clinic CEPRECE, based in Cusco, Peru.

Up to 120 patients per day are treated in the South American clinic. Before it was not possible to treat retinal holes, retinal detachments, glaucoma and proliferative lesions.

Dr Frilo Silva, director of CEPRECE, was invited by Dr Berthold Seitz to attend a three-week crash course in modern laser techniques, phacoemulsification and vitrectomy.

The course included the use of the WetLab and Geuder's combined vitrectomy and phaco machine, as well as OR instruments. The German company joins a number of hospitals with the vision of transforming CEPRECE into a training centre for Peruvian ophthalmologists.

Ophthalmologists from Geuder were flown to Cusco to supervise the new OR techniques for Dr Silva.
