FLORetina Congress celebrates 10 years with joint World Retinopathy of Prematurity meeting

The two meetings will be held concurrently from December 4-7 in Florence, Italy

The FLORetina International Congress on OCT Angiography, En Face OCT and Advances in OCT (FLORetina-ICOOR) will run from 4 through 7 December this year as the organisation celebrates 10 years of the annual congress.1 The meeting will be held jointly with the World Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Congress in Florence, Italy. This will be the fifth annual World ROP Congress. To mark the milestone, the FLORetina meeting will introduce an industry-centric event called Eyenovate, which will be held 3 and 4 December. All events will be hosted at Fortezza de Basso in Florence.

Eyenovate is described as, “designed to connect the latest and emerging trends in ophthalmic innovation with the capital, regulatory, and market leaders needed to bring those innovations to life.”2 The full-day event will focus on the business, policy, and emerging ecosystem of developing ophthalmic advancements.

This year's FLORetina congress is anticipated to draw nearly 4,100 participants, who will bring 1,500 podium presentations and 450 free papers. An estimated 70 countries will be represented on the global stage, and 57 ophthalmic industry companies will participate in the exhibition hall.

This year’s Bruno Lumbroso lecture will be delivered by Eric Souied.3 Prof Souied is head of the department of ophthalmology at Hopital Intercommunal de Créteil in Créteil, France. The lecture, titled “Gene Therapy for Neovascular AMD: Are We Moving toward a Cure?” will focus on innovations in the gene therapy space and the near future of macular care. In 2021, the ICOOR meeting, first organised by Prof Bruno Lumbroso, merged with the FLORetina congress, and the award lecture was established in his honour.

The World ROP Congress has been held annually since 2021, in response to the prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Each year, these congresses allow for the collaboration and connection of medical professionals on the frontlines of neonatal and pediatric eye care—ophthalmologists, neonatologists, nurses, and other public health professionals. The programme for this year’s World ROP Congress can be found here.4

Prof Stanislao Rizzo serves as president and organiser of FLORetina-ICOOR. Rajvardhan Azad is president of the World ROP Council, the governing body of the World ROP Congress.

Attendees may register for a reduced fee through 30 November. Additional discounts are available for ophthalmologists under the age of 35, and support staff (including orthoptists and nurses).
