The 16th European Glaucoma Society Congress convenes in Dublin
This year’s meeting will take place in Ireland’s technology and business hub

From 1 June to 4 June, the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) will convene in Dublin, Ireland, for the 16th EGS Congress. The four-day meeting will include lectures, panels and demonstrations on a number of surgical, practice-centric and patient-focused topics. The first day of programming will include a keynote lecture titled “Interpreting surgical innovations,” presented by Professor Roger Kneebone, MD, PhD.
Hands-on surgical symposia, taking place each day, will focus on bleb forming devices, trabeculectomy, tubes and MIGS. Posters at the meeting are divided into a wide range of categories: diagnosis, surgical, laser and medical treatments, follow up and glaucoma progression, genetic research,pathogenesis, epidemiology, quality of life, health economics and visual disability. A Technical Exhibition will feature industry partners showcasing new products and devices.
In a welcome letter, the EGS leadership and programme planning committee announced1 the popular EGS Surgery Day would return for 2024, putting a focus on challenges related to novel and innovative surgical techniques. The letter also highlighted recent efforts which would be spotlighted at the congress. Over the last few years, leadership wrote, the society has intensively worked on “the Real World Data Project, the Surgery Project, the EGS Glaucoma Fellowship Project, the Research Priorities Project, the Patients Initiative and the Outcomes Project.” Innovations and updates from those ongoing projects will be incorporated into the meeting’s scientific programme. These core concepts “[are] building the scaffold for a high quality scientific exchange from the first day until the very last session in an open-minded, multicultural environment,” the letter read.
