Four new products launched at today's show to help facilitate surgeons’ daily work included a new modular phaco machine for cataract surgery and solution for posterior vitrectomy, a new single-piece hydrophilic pre-loaded IOL, a new viscoelastic and a new lubricant and contact agent for the protection of the corneal surface during surgery. The quartet have all been launched by Croma.

The Barrett IOL, developed in conjunction with Australian Professor Graham Barrett, claims to have a unique ergonmic haptic design. It optimally disperses the forces on the equator of the capsular bag even for those with a small diameter and so the trauma to the bag is, according to Croma, decreased significantly when compared to other standard open C-loop haptic IOLs.

Designed as a modular system for anterior and posterior segment surgery The Liberty System is a new phaco machine, which includes a peristaltic pump. The phaco is based on a low-energy ultrasound technology for micro-coaxial or bimanual surgery. The vitreotome offers high-speed cutting with a short occlusion system: closing time is constant and fixed at 15 msec independent of the cutting speed. The hand piece comes in 20, 23 and 25 Gauge.

Eyefill Cohesive is a viscous, cohesive, viseoelastic for standard cataract procedures. It offers constant stabilization of the anterior and capsular bag with an optimal protection of the sensitive ophthalmic tissues.

Finally, the lubricant and contact agent for the protection of the corneal surface during surgical procedures is Cornea Protect. It offers long retention time on the corneal surface offers up to 20 minutes of protection time.
