Ophthalmic instrument and replacement lens business, Ophtec BV, has expanded its business into the Far East with a site based in Japan.

“High myopia combined with a thin cornea occurs frequently amongst the Asian population. Our Artisan and Artiflex lenses offer an excellent solution for these types of eyes that are not suitable for eye-laser treatment. The Artisan and Artiflex lenses are inserted in the eye during a short outpatient operation and correct refraction deviations of up to -24 diopters. An excellent solution for the people in this region who are increasingly looking for opportunities to improve their quality of life,” says Ophtec Director Erik-Jan Worst. “Just as our ancestors 400 years ago, we see this as a wonderful challenge to expand our trading activities to this country. With our own Japanese site, staffed with a Japanese crew led by Hiromasa Yamada, we expect our products to take up an important place in the refraction surgery arena of Japan within the next few years.”
