QLT has entered into a two-year research collaboration with the Wilmer Eye Institute at John Hopkins University, USA, to research and develop potential treatments for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The research will focus on preventing the production of toxic lipids in the eye which are thought to be key early events in dry AMD. QLT will have the first option to negotiate an exclusive license to patented products resulting from the research.
Under the terms of the agreement, John Hopkins University will receive $1.45 million over two years and, if QLT exercises its option for exclusive license, they will pay the university certain financial milestones and royalties.
