Goniophotography and EyeCam imaging are both highly sensitive for detecting gonioscopic angle closure.

Goniophotography and EyeCam imaging are both highly sensitive for detecting gonioscopic angle closure.

A prospective, hospital-based, cross-sectional investigation, completed by Dr Mani Baskaran et al., Singapore Eye Research Institute and Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore, included 85 eyes of 85 patients. Each participant underwent gonioscopy by a single observer and EyeCam imaging and goniophotography by various operators.

Angle closure was present in 38 eyes with gonioscopy, 40 eyes with the EyeCam and 40 eyes with goniophotography. There was high agreement between angle closure diagnosis and the two imaging modalities.

However, the agreement between the EyeCam and goniophotography was not as significant, due to lack of agreement in the nasal and temporal quadrants. Both EyeCam and goniophotography have similarly high sensitivity and specificity when detecting gonioscopic angle closure.

The abstract was published online in the Journal of Glaucoma.
