Goldmann applanation tonometry is affected by central corneal thickness, reveals a study in the Journal of Glaucoma.

Goldmann applanation tonometry is affected by central corneal thickness, reveals a study in the Journal of Glaucoma.

Dr Federico Saenz-Frances, Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain, examined a total of 136 consecutive healthy eyes.

The team constructed two multivariate linear regression models, with one for each tonometry system. The predictive variable in both models were keratometric power of the flattest and steepest axis, flattest axis, CCT, mean over corneal thickness and mean thickness of corneal zones I, II, III, IV, V and VI.

Multivariate regression analysis revealed that GAT was affected by CCT and mean thickness zones I, II and III. However, only the mean thickness zone II affected dynamic contour tonometry (DCT).
