Martine J. Jager, MD, PhD, outgoing president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), called for greater international expansion and involvement during her keynote speech at this year's meeting.
Dr Jager, ARVO's first non-US president, has spoken at the Brazilian and Israeli chapter meetings, and will also be present at meetings in Hungary and the Netherlands later this year. The association has members from 70 different countries. During her speech, Dr Jager noted that 142 non-US researchers were awarded travel grants to attend this year?s meeting.
Dr Jager also urged members to familiarize themselves with the draft copy of the association's international advocacy handbook.
