The preparations for the 24th EURETINA Congress are gearing up in Spain as the first day of the meeting draws near. The congress venue is the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB), 11-14 Plaça de Willy Brandt, Barcelona. The EURETINA Congress runs 19 to 22 September.

The congress organisers have clearly defined this year’s goals. “Our purpose at EURETINA is bringing retina experts and those in the early stages of their career together, to share and progress retina science and prevent avoidable blindness,” the organisation’s mission statement reads.

The programme is chock full of topics for every aspect of retina. Special events

Euretina Innovation Spotlight

The Euretina Innovation Spotlight (EIS) will precede the opening of the congress on September 18 at the CCIB.

This is the second EIS. According to Anat Loewenstein, MD, MHA, President of EURETINA, the EIS was a resounding success in 2023. “Following the tremendous success of the inaugural EIS, we are thrilled to announce the second edition of this landmark event,” she said.

Last year, EIS attracted over 600 key figures from various sectors, including industry leaders, regulators, investors, researchers, and physicians. More than 50 programme contributors and 17 generous sponsors were instrumental in the launch of the program.

The 6-hour spotlight will include panel discussions and talks by selected industry leaders, biomedical innovators, regulators and Investors, and networking opportunities. The complete list of sessions can be viewed at: https://euretina.org/eis24/programme/

Keynote lectures

  • The EURETINA Lecture, titled “Pathologic Myopia: New Horizons through Cutting-Edge Imaging Technologies,” will be delivered by Kyoko Ohno-Matsui, MD, on September 19, 16:15 CEST
  • The Kreissig Award Lecture, titled “My Journey to Retinal Detachment: Mechanism, Treatment, Results, and Social Impact,” will be delivered by Taiji Sakamoto, MD, on September 21 at14:15 CEST
  • The Gisbert Richard Lecture titled “Ten Years on: What Have We Learned From the Euretina/BEAVRS Database So Far,” will be delivered by David Yorston, MD, on September 21,14:45 CEST
  • The Ophthalmologica Lecture, titled “Things That Matter: An Evidence-Based Approach to AMD and CSC,” will be presented by Yousif Subhi, MD, September 21,16:45 CEST

World Retina Day

This year, World Retina Day officially falls on September 28. EURETINA will commemorate the day on September 21 during the Congress. The link lists the presentations:
