Three multifocals: similar results

Article

The multifocal ReSTOR (Alcon), Tecnis multifocal (AMO) and *Acri.LISA (Acri.Tec) lenses can all provide satisfactory distance and near uncorrected vision.

The multifocal ReSTOR (Alcon), Tecnis multifocal (AMO) and *Acri.LISA (Acri.Tec) lenses can all provide satisfactory distance and near uncorrected vision, according to Pascal Rozot and colleagues from the Clinique Monticelli, Marseille and Paris, France.

In a retrospective study of 230 eyes of 125 subjects undergoing phacoemulsification, 70 eyes received the ReSTOR lens, 70 eyes a Tecnis MF and 90 eyes received an *Acri.LISA lens.

The researchers found that distance uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.75, 0.7 and 0.85 in the ReSTOR, Tecnis MF and *Acri.LISA eyes, respectively. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was similar in all eyes and defocus curves showed only slight differences. There were no significant differences in ETDRS contrast sensitivity.

The researchers concluded that all three lenses provide satisfactory results for both near and distance vision.
