WaveLight today introduced the Allegro BioGraph, a combined Biometer using the OLCR (Optical Low Coherence Reflectometry) measuring principle. For use in cataract and refractive surgery, the device delivers contact-free measurement, supplying data on axial eye dimensions and the complete anterior segment in a single, one-click measurement.
"This device provides a complete measurement," said product manager Johannes Krause. "Now we are able to look through the whole eye."
Krause said the BioGraph's EyeClick technology saves time and enables comprehensive examination with a single sitting. Axial eye dimensions are determined from 16 consecutive scans of the eye, all performed in one measurement, removing the need to readjust the measuring device, reset the patient or switch between several diagnostic devices.
All measurement results are displayed on the system monitor, with interpretations illustrated graphically. Data captured can also be applied to the individual adaptation of appropriate IOLs; established international planning formulas for IOL refraction calculation are integrated into the system's software.
In the future, WaveLight is planning to connect the BioGraph directly to its excimer laser systems. "We are working to take the data straight to laser," said Krause.
