Alcon has launched the +3.0 Add Power AcrySof ReSTOR aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) with natural chromophore. The lens gained its CE mark in late 2007 and has been available throughout the EU since mid-September 2008.

The +3.0 Add Power IOL, a refinement of the +4.0 Add Power lens model, can be inserted through a 2.2 mm incision, and is implanted in exactly the same manner as the +4.0 add lens, eradicating the learning curve.

The lens has been associated with a similar incidence and degree of adverse events as the earlier model, and has a high rate of patient satisfaction. The rate of success is also high: at three months, 94.9% of patients had best corrected visual acuities (near, intermediate and distance combined) of ≥20/40.
