The establishment of an operating theatre in León/Nicaragua will provide ophthalmologists and students with new training facilities which will lead to im-proved treatment for patients. Geuder AG, based in Heidelberg/Germany, is sup-porting this project by donating equipment.

According to Dr Gernot Richter, head physician at the Carl Thiem Clinic in Cottbus, Germany and initiator of this project, the goal of this new theatre is to be able to introduce modern anterior segment surgery procedures. Together with Dr. José Maria Zamora of Nicaragua, Dr Richter has been committed to training ophthalmologists a the University of León, where he is also an honorary professor. This university is the oldest in Nicaragua and with its 15,000 students, one of the largest universities in Central America. As well as training doctors and technical staff, Dr Richter ensures that ophthalmological devices are available.

Volker Geuder, head of the management board at Geuder AG, gladly lends the support of his company and is happy to be able to help where it is really needed. Geuder AG has donated surgical instruments and an operating system for perfor-ming cataract procedures.
