Bausch & Lomb and Schwind are following the latest industry trend by forming strategic alliances with femtosecond laser manufacturers 20/10 Perfect Vision and Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems, respectively.

Both Bausch & Lomb and Schwind currently market a number of refractive surgery products, respectively including the Zyoptix personalized laser vision correction system and the Amaris excimer laser. Pairing with the two femtosecond laser manufacturers will enable both firms to offer all-laser LASIK from a single source. In addition, the promise that femtosecond technology has shown in other applications, including presbyopia correction and corneal transplantation, could present a myriad of additional opportunities for the excimer laser manufacturers.

20/10 Perfect Vision manufactures the FEMTEC femtosecond laser, whilst the FEMTO LDV femtosecond laser is manufactured by Ziemer.
