Bausch & Lomb has introduced a stable chamber tubing system, as a part of the new micro incision vacuum pack, to its Millennium Micro Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS) platform.

As part of the company's ongoing strategy to provide safe and effective 1.8 mm phacoemulsification, the stable chamber tubing system was designed to maintain positive intraocular pressure (IOP) during surgery and to provide surge-free phaco surgery at high vacuums. To achieve this, small diameter tubing is used to create resistance to flow throughout the entire fluidic circuit. A filter is integrated into the aspiration tubing which captures particles larger than 0.5 mm, yet still allows the free flow of fluid, preventing clogging.

Other features of the Millennium MICS platform include the new custom control software which offers five ultrasounding options helping to minimize ?absolute phaco time', reducing heat generation and thus increasing safety.

To support surgeons' transitions to 1.8 mm surgery, Bausch & Lomb has set up the Millennium MICS education programme.
